Shelter Animals

Between the years of 2002 and 2006 my husband and I volunteered at one of the many animal shelters in central Arizona in the United States. Each week I would photograph the new arrivals (the ones that were deemed adoptable) and post these photographs on the petfinder.com website. The lucky ones actually were able to find homes and that is what kept us going back every week to "do it all over again". It became very obvious to me that even though most of these animals had been through the worst of times, they seemed to be willing to forgive, wanting only to find someone to care for and love them. We used this saying to keep our spirits up while we did this sometimes very depressing work......

"Saving just one dog won't change the world,
but it will change the world for that dog".

hi! thanks for stopping by my post.

i don't know if your love is simply for dogs and cats, or animals in general, but i watched a GREAT documentary called The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill...so good i think i'll make it a port.

check it out if you can get your hands on a copy!

Wonderful photo and love the story behind it...I applaud those who can work at shelters...we adopted our cats and dog from shelters and know the love they have for their new lives!!!

The Chieftess...I visited your blog and you have taken some wonderful photos of zoo animals. Good facial expressions and that is often very hard to capture. ALSO
My husband and his siblings grew up in Long Beach. They attended Poly High School. I grew up in a small town where it's possible to know everybody. My husband laughs because he had such a large class in High school, but I was just a little curious if maybe you knew one another? :o)

Thank you mj!!! Actually, I grew up in Glendale Ca...I lived in LB for about 15 years as an adult from about '90-'02....I lived in the Belmont Heights area. My cousin grew up in LB and went to Wilson High, but his mom taught at Poly....but a very long time ago...she probably stopped teaching at least 40 years ago and most likely considerably more than that...when did your hubby graduate from Poly?

Hans...I have thousands of photos of the Shelter animals. I have never had the heart to delete them...thinking that would be too final for them.

mj...your hubby and I are close to the same age...I graduated from GHS in '70...I'm afraid I don't know the name Gosselin...my family name was Murman...my cousin's mother had a stroke in her 30's or 40's and retired from Poly long before '68...
