We met this wonderful dog two months ago, when we took this picture at Fonte do Covão, near Sesimbra (Portugal). The farmer, and owner of the dog, said that he kept him there as a watchdog. But there was not much to guard, and the dog was friendly in extreme, not a watchdog at all. Later the man asked us if we wanted to take the dog, saying that he had grown too much, and he couldn't keep him home — maybe the real reason why the dog is kept all day in this place, chained, in an improvised tent: see photo.

We were so impressed by the friendly approach of this dog that we didn't forgot him. We were also impressed by the fact that such a magnificent dog had to be alone most of the time, playing a role not suitable for him, although he seems to be well treated and fed. We returned today, and there he was, all alone, always friendly, extremely friendly and very energetic, and once again we left the place, very upset by this situation.

He's Wonderful! Obviously, he needs some good people to adopt him and I'm figuring that you don't have room to take him in. I know how you feel - many dogs in my neighborhood live, more or less, like this. Chained with simple shelter as "watch dogs". I bring biscuits to all the ones I can reach but it breaks my heart on every walk. Maybe you can find a good soul to adopt him. Thanks for introducing us.

I can imagine how it upsets you to leave him again. Its very sad, for this friendly dog to live on his own.
Wish someone people could adopt him. I think it would be a friend for life.
Our adopted dog Tommy also shows somuch affection and kindness, although he was not always approached very kind in Spain we think. Its not nice for my dogs who died the past years. But Tommy is one of the best things that came in my life. You gave us a sad story but I'm glad you shared with us.
You must not feel guilty.
